Intraocular neoplasia
Intraocular neoplasia in cats may affect particularly the iris. Brown spots on the iris which grow bigger and darker over time could be indicative of diffuse iris melanoma. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this condition and the eye may need to be removed in advanced stages as the tumour will readily spread inside the eye and may also lead to distant metastatic disease. Multicentric lymphoma may often involve the eye and might be the first sign before other symptoms occur. The iris may become thickened and nodular and the pupil often appears misshaped. Further medical investigations (abdominal ultrasound, thoracic radiographs and blood tests) are necessary if a neoplastic disease is suspected.
